What's your threshold?

April 2, 2019

I am talking about the deciding factor that makes you take new action.

For myself, it is the mirror. I have mirrors all over my apartment. I am noticing myself more when I gain a few pounds. My face gets a bit fuller, clothes sitting awkwardly. My back bacon coming into view when I bend down to tie my shoes. The mirrors. I love looking at myself. I also despise the mirrors, because they don’t lie.

So what motivates you?

Is it food? Family? Clothes getting too tight? Doctor says something?

Motivation is defined as a willingness to do something. A psychological force to take action. Many others have stated motivation happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of making a change.

That's your where your threshold is.

Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Currently, for me, the mirrors make me uncomfortable.

The mirrors have become my reminder to get moving. Even though I am a morning person, I am finding myself getting up earlier to walk out the door and up the hill to wake up. It is about 4 to 5 minute walk to the top of my hill. I am appreciating the take 5 for me. This is my new "wakey workout" that sets the tone for the day. Moving for a few minutes as soon as I get up kicks in my metabolism, setting me up feeling energized and ready to take on the day.

To do within the first few minutes of waking up:

  • Jog in place or jumping jacks  for 1 to 3 minutes.

or

  • Plank or squat holds for 3 minutes.

or

  • Circuit train 1 minute doing a different exercises:                                                            Push ups, Squats, Arm circles, Leg swings, Jumping Jacks

or

  • Go for a quick walk, jog, or run for 3 to 5 minutes.

Getting in this time for you is better than nothing at all!  Get in what you can fit in.

And then maybe you'll fit in. To those pants.
