My former 81 year old coach and I had some piroshkis over at his apartment the other day where he expressed to me that he was struggling with his health. He wanted to discontinue coaching, his passion, due to the commute as well as other reasons.
He took good care of himself, exercised everyday for his love and determination to change others and himself for the healthier. Yet at 81 years old, coaching, something he loved, had become too cumbersome for him to carry on with.
After lunch he walked me to the elevators and said, “Wow. That went fast. See you my friend.”
In our day to day lives we tend to take time for granted. It’s usually not until a sweet moment ends or time is at stake where we finally can see how our time was spent.
What helps me get out of bed and live my passion day to day is showing up. To me, showing up means owning your actions. Take pride in what I am doing. Whether you are eating a big slice of cake, drinking a beer, or going through exercises, own it. Do it the best you can and own the enjoyment of doing it. For the pure and simple reason that you are in control of what you desire to do. Own your actions. Life is short.
